The Meet Cute

Claire and Henry first met in the early morning at the fine establishment of D&D Dogs, nestled in the quiet town of Evanston, IL, as they both prepared to make their way to the Cubs 2016 World Series Parade. With his typical shameless confidence, mostly fueled by 7:30AM beers, Henry yelled across the restaurant to compliment Claire on her rainboots in an attempt to start a conversation.

Never one to reject an ego boost, Claire decided to oblige the shouting, malt liquor-wielding man. She began chatting him up as they left D&D’s for the train, with styrofoam-boxed breakfasts and 40s in hand.

On the L ride to Chicago, as crazed Cubs fans celebrated wildly, Claire and Henry enjoyed delightful conversation over a shared breakfast of to-go omelets and Steel Reserves. They haven’t stopped talking since.

The Proposal

Henry proposed on August 10, 2022 at the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. Claire had some suspicion that Henry was planning to propose on her post Bar Exam trip through South East Asia, but what she was not expecting was it to be the first morning of their trip.

After a short night sleep, Henry and Claire woke up early to watch the sunrise from the roof of the Marina Bay Sands. Claire wanted to spend the morning relaxing by the pool for a bit before heading for a long walk through gardens. Claire did not get to spend the morning relaxing.

Henry anxiously urged Claire to hurry up so they could make it to the gardens early, in an attempt to ‘beat the midday heat and crowd’. Begrudgingly, Claire obliged.

As they walked through the Gardens by the Bay, Henry made several erratic turns of directions, which Claire found a bit odd, but wasn’t overly suspicious. What she didn’t know was that he was looking for the perfect spot to ask her to marry him. After some searching, they got in the elevator to the top of the Supertrees, and as they stepped out to the beautiful expanse, Henry got down on one knee and proposed.
